This 1968 Chevelle Is A Modernized Yenko Clone

If in the glory days of street racing you ran into a Chevy donning a side stripe with the words “Yenko S/C” glaring at you, it was best to save your cash, your fuel and your pride by not hammering the throttle on green. You weren’t up against any car, it was a damn super car of that era, it was a Yenko. With big power and custom striping, these cars were as formidable as they were drop dead sexy. Lucky for the future owner, this pro-touring 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle Yenko clone takes everything that made the Yenko successful and goes one step farther by bringing it into the modern world.

This custom Chevy wears a mirror-finish Reflex Silver paint that’s been professionally cared for after it’s restoration was completed. The unmistakable red Yenko stripe decal runs the length of both passenger and driver side, from front the rear quarters to the front fenders. The Super Sport hood hosts the iconic dual stripe that ends with the signature, “SYC” or Yenko Super Car insignia.  If the silver underneath the red suits you just fine, feel free to strip the Yenko striping as it’s all removable without risk of damaging the paint. Pulling into the car show to be meticulously inspected by onlookers is no worry with all brand new bumpers and chrome trim. While Radial T/A’s and 15” wheels got the job done sixty years ago, this Chevelle brings classic designs and modern performance together as it sits on 17” American Racing “Salt Flat” wheels that are mounted on Redline Performance Radial tires, 225/50R17 up front and 275/50R17 in the rear. Pop the hood to display the immaculately restored engine bay. Instead of the customary black hole that’s usually found under the hood of a Chevy, this Chevelle went the extra mile to smooth the firewall and coat the fenders in the same silver as the exterior.

One of the great achievements in the last six decades of hot rodding is the small block Chevy’s ability to churn out big block power and sound in a lightweight package. This Chevelle utilizes the power-to-weight ratio to it’s advantage as it churns out over 450 horsepower from the GM performance crate engine. Electronic fuel injection feeds this angry mouse all the fuel it needs while custom stainless headers and a custom exhaust fill your ears with V8 sounds of rebellion and freedom. A Tremec 5 speed overdrive tranny sits behind the small block and reminds you of what it means to be alive as you row the gears.  A 12 bolt-posi rear houses a set of 3:42 gears making this a highway cruiser and mainstreet bruiser.

The performance upgrades list continues to grow as you crawl under this A-body and get a glimpse of the undercarriage.  A frame that’s been removed and painted black, clean floorboards and hardware that have a car show winning shine still. A QA1 Performance suspension has been outfitted to this full frame machine with adjustable coilovers at all four corners, tubular control arms, heavy duty sway bars and trailing arms. The steering is sharp with a fast-ratio power steering upgrade. Outdated drums and tiny disc brakes have been swapped out in favor of four-wheel power disc brakes.

The interior is a driver’s dream with updated bucket seats courtesy of TMI that fit and feel that a custom car should.  A blazing red interior is masterfully offset with touches of black and silver throughout the cabin, tying the interior and exterior together. This modifications list includes the pro-touring essentials: suede headliner and visors, center console, upgraded door panels and billet window cranks. Vintage AC cools the cabin while heated seats keep you warm.  Autosound stereo with bluetooth and AM/FM pumps the tunes for your listening pleasure. A modern SS steering wheel steers this beast while custom digital and analog gauges are nestled into the dash with a 160 MPH speed and 8,000 RPM tach.  The trunk has received the same treatment as the cockpit.

This is a six-figure restoration with a binder full of receipts and complete restoration information. And as you browse the details of this build, you can be confident in knowing that Don Yenko would be proud to see his name displayed on this pro-touring Chevelle.
