Just Sold Series: 1970 Dodge Charger Restomod Auction Was A Battle

Sometimes prices tell the story; other times, the bidding does. And this 1970 Dodge Charger, built and given away by RestoMods.com, is one of those stories. After cruising the photos and build sheet on this beast, it’s easy to see why there was so much action in this auction. The pinnacle of Mopars reigns supreme as the auction ended in with a six figure payday.  Interest was immediate, and nobody wanted to sit on the sidelines and miss their chance to own an incredible car.

So they started bidding. And then they kept bidding. By the time the auction ended, there were nearly 60 bids, and the hammer fell at $167,000. A hell of a deal for one hell of a ride.  And here’s a look at what the winner took home.

The design of this car alone is an icon in the automotive world. Long hood, fastback roofline, a tough, muscular stance, and infamous taillights that those unfortunate enough to challenge this car to a race will see plenty of. But this isn’t a run-of-the-mill Charger. In fact, it’s not your Grandpa’s souped-up Charger, not even close. This is a dialed-in Main Street terrorizer.

Under the hood is a Gen III Hemi from Blueprint Engines (the first ever installed from our friends) that puts out over 650 horsepower.  With a weight of 3,570 lbs., you’re entering supercar territory of power-to-weight ratio (0.182 to be precise)!  Now mount a TKX 5-speed transmission behind that nasty V8, and you’ve got yourself one hell of a combo that changes this car entirely.  And we’re only getting started.

QA1 was called in to make sure this Mopar rode well and hooked up. So a set of coilovers was installed at every corner, a four-link rear setup was installed out back, and Wilwood disc brakes sit behind every wheel. At the same time, you utilize a rack and pinion to steer this machine, and a Mopar 8.75” posi rear end that laid rubber and a proper ass whooping when necessary. Needless to say, this isn’t a Charger that got a motor swap, and they called it a day; nope, this is a complete nuts-and-bolts restoration that turned this into a restomod dream.

After the winner of the RestoMods.com giveaway decided it was time to sell the car, he entrusted BuyTheCar.com to help him get the most value for his vehicle as possible. They posted their high-quality listing and waited to see what would happen. Almost immediately, bids started coming in, and in no time they were climbing—$20,000, $30,000, and then $65,000 in the first day alone.

And that’s the magic of an auction. When you list a classic car for sale, you’re telling people what you want. But a classic car auction tells you how badly people want your car. And they were raging for this Charger as they battled to the last minute to win the most sought-after muscle car on the market.

We know the performance and muscle this Charger packs, but what made every bidder keep coming back? Yes, it’s a Charger, arguably the Holy Grail of muscle cars at this point. And sure, a modern Hemi swap with a modern suspension and manual transmission will make bidders begin to salivate. But we still need to look at the build as a complete package, which is exactly what this car is: the whole package.

The exterior of this Charger is dripping with sexiness and draped in gloss black paint. A matte black stripe runs around the rear trunk and quarters. Staggered 18” American Racing wheels, also black to match the aggressive vibe, give this Mopar its menacing stance.

No expense was spared in this build, and that’s evident, especially once you settle into this high-end interior. Dakota Digital gauges, Vintage Air conditioning, Flaming River tilt column with a Billet Specialties steering wheel mounted to it, and the coolest shifter of all time, the Hurst Pistol Grip, give this car an upscale feeling with remarkable functionality. And then there’s the killer Sparco seats!

Whenever a classic muscle car crosses the block for six figures, ask yourself, why? The reason for this high price tag is simple: it was the perfect package and the right platform.  Be sure to check out all the photos and videos of this car and be ready to see what rolls across the auction block next. Happy hotrodding!
