One Of A Kind Chevelle Restomod Headed To Auction

Chevrolet designed a jaw-dropping vehicle for the last year of the first-generation Chevelle. It walks the line between something a mid-century gangster would drive and a true, red-blooded American muscle car. A highly potent collaboration of elegance and sheer power, with sharp lines, seductive hips, and brutal big-block power, is why these cars are timeless. Only this badass Chevelle takes all things that made it great and brings it into the modern world with impeccable craftsmanship and a well-executed plan.

In 1967, you could upgrade your base Chevelle to the infamous L78 396 big block, which churned a head-spinning (for the 60s) 375 horsepower. This build asked: why not nearly double that power, keep the big-block attitude, and stay reliable? So a 408 C.I. LS3 V8 engine was prepped with an Eagle crankshaft, Mahle connecting rods, Fly-Cut pistons, COMP camshaft, Holley Intake manifold, and a Sniper EFI system to feed the beast.  As you’ll see in the photos, the finishing touch was the priority, so a set of custom vintage-style coil plug “valve covers” topped this machine to blend the old and new.  An electric fan is mounted to the aluminum radiator to keep a cool breeze on all of those ponies. At the same time, custom headers and an X-Pipe system make it sound like a stampede is headed your way, and that’s before bumping open those killer exhaust cutouts. Backing up all this fury is, of course, a Tremec 5-speed and a 12-bolt posi-traction rear end, making this car get up and go while you have a blast rowing the gears.

There’s no reason to go through all that trouble of building a mean LS for your ride only to have it ride on old, saggy coil springs!  We demand traction, control, and comfort in the modern era, and boy does this car deliver. A custom GNS frame serves as our radical foundation with tubular front control arms, power rack-and-pinion steering, adjustable coil-overs at each wheel, and a four-link rear suspension set up to keep this beast grounded. Wilwood power disc brakes are nestled behind each wheel, with the front possessing six-piston calipers and the rear with four pistons each. The rotors are slotted to expel heat and act as subtle reminders that this isn’t your grandpa’s Chevy.

Maintaining the “modern or die” vibe, this Chevy has a custom interior that’s a pleasure to sink into and rush as you rip the gears.  TMI Products supplied the front buckets, which have a high-performance vibe with a leather-and-microsuede design.  A carpeted rear deck, a harness bar, a custom center console (with a cup holder),, and color-matching door panels tie the soft interior together. Does it have A/C? Of course. But when the AC isn’t on blast, roll the electric windows down to enjoy the natural breeze and listen to that V8 sing while you crank the tunes on your Alpine receiver. Don’t forget the custom-upholstered trunk that matches your interior.   A billet steering wheel wheel bolts to a tilt steering column so you can dial in your drive.  The carbon fiber instrument cluster holds your White Dial Autometer gauges in place as you tear through the backroads or down the strip.  A custom billet shifter and sleek blue knob let you take full control and connect you to the heart of this machine.

Yeah, I saved the best for last because the work on this body is absolutely killer and will ensure that this car is a conversation starter wherever it goes! All emblems and chrome were shaved to clean up the outer appearance.  Drip rails were smoothed, door handles were shaved, while the front and rear bumpers were frenched to create a seamless silhouette. A custom cowl-induction hood was built for this Chevy to ram air down into the LS motor, while the rear quarters were widened to fit more meat. A matte black front grille and taillight panel create a striking contrast with the custom blue paint that drapes the car, including the once-chrome bumpers. The car is nestled on multi-piece Billet Specialties alloy wheels, 18” up front and a staggered 20” out back.  Delinte front tires steer while Mickey Thompson’s grip and stick in the rear.

All in all, this is a masterpiece of a restomod. This type of build is not a simple powertrain and tire swap. It’s a masterclass in the fusion of old and new, the finishing touch and incredible sheet metal work. This Chevelle is simply art in motion.
